The name ‘Old Durbar’ was derived from the name of the Rani Mahal in Palpa. Therefore, the inspiration for the logo was also taken the famous landmark. With the tradition of local homemade liquor still alive and abundance of other spirits in the market, there was not much of whisky making culture in trend. Hence, we came up with the name to give it a Nepali feel. While other brands in the market had flashy packaging and added flavor in their products, ours was an 8-year-old whisky, with the main ingredients imported from the UK. This called for the product to have a premium feel.

Brands like Signature and Royal Stag were popular in the market. And in the premium level, there were Red Label and Black Label that had distinguishable looks. So our designs also needed to be of that standard.

We started working on how to position it as a premium brand and to make it stand out from the rest of the local as well as international brands. The concept for the packaging styles was mainly focused on the imported brands.

We initially created three designs all of which we continued to refine. In the end, we toned it down to two colours to show the premiumness- gold and black.

It has successfully managed to establish itself as probably the only premium local whisky brand and its packaging has assisted in bringing out the premium feel.
