Company: Kgarira?
Built with React Native & Django
Industry: Events and Ticketing
The Challenge
Kgarira sold tickets through a website. But most people in Nepal prefer to use the internet on their phones rather than desktops or laptops.
The site didn’t work well on a small screen. Buttons were hard to tap. Pages took a long time to load on mobile data. Checking out felt clunky, with fields too small and menus that didn’t fit right.
This caused problems on both ends. Organizers lost ticket sales to people who couldn’t finish checkout on their phones.
People trying to buy on mobile had no smooth way to browse events, complete a purchase, or get their ticket without the site being hard to navigate.
The Solution
Pagoda Labs built Kgarira as a mobile app for Android, so people could buy tickets right from their phones. React Native handled the app itself. Django ran the backend, managing accounts, events, and ticket sales.
The app helped achieve a few things well:
- Lists upcoming events by date and category
- Let’s let people buy tickets in the app, with instant confirmation
- Give each ticket a QR code, scanned at the door
- Shows organizers ticket sales and attendance as they happen
- Sends reminders to ticket holders before an event starts
Project Timeline: 3 Months
Month 1: Research and Planning
The team reviewed website analytics and talked to organizers about pain points at the door. They mapped out the core app flow: browsing events, buying a ticket, and getting scanned in. Wireframes were built and tested for a simple, fast checkout.
Month 2: Build
The React Native app came together, screen by screen: event listings, ticket purchase, and the QR ticket. On the backend, Django was extended to handle mobile ticket requests and generate QR codes tied to each purchase. Payment integration was connected and tested.
Month 3: Testing and Launch
The team ran the app with a small group of organizers and real events. Bugs from checkout and scanning got fixed. The app then rolled out fully.
The Results
Six months after launch:
- Over 150 events listed
- More than 12,000 tickets sold through the app
- Mobile ticket sales made up 80% of all tickets sold, up from near zero when the website was the only option
- Entry at the door dropped from 3 to 4 seconds per person to under 1 second with QR scanning
- Organizers cut wait times at the entry by about 50%
People without a computer could finally buy tickets on their own, right from their phone. Organizers reached an audience that the website never could.
